the last few glimpses of the room people wondered how debra and i survived in for the past year.
gosh i'm really missing it already.

today also marks the last day of the authority given to me to be UV's residential advisor..
no more organising events, taking care of the building, tending to student's constant cries for help.

darn, i hate being emotional.
can u actually believe that i could get so emotionally attached to my room.


well, life goes on.
but i must say, i loved my stay at UV

i love the way we still run back to each other when things go wrong even if when we're so far away and so busy with life.

yippeee!

as i walked into class today, sarah (a 2nd year podiatry student), who helped me with my foot on monday asked me how i was doing. and she was kind enough to offer to take a look at my wart after class. so we (me, sarah and richard (another podiatry student)) made our way to the clinic and yea, my wart sure looked even more gross than it was on monday. so she got her tutor to come take a look at me (again) and then i got "cut" again. boy it hurt so bad. imagine having a blade cutting off living tissue from your body. cringing already? yes, exactly. sarah told me to cry if i needed to. lol . and Richard said i was very brave! *smiles* i felt like a lil kid who had just seen a horrifying dentist. hehe.

cathy, the tutor, said that i was doing pretty good. she cut off the surrounding skin, dug out the pus that formed in the core and dug out all the ruptured blood vessels which had been "destroyed" by the monochlor. she debrided the warts on my two toenails as well.. pretty much deeper than previously.. they're like two lil wells now.. hehe. and yea like she said, when it comes to severe warts like this, some pain's got to be beared to get rid of it. so yea. BRING IT ON!

i feel so loved.
these people are so genuinely concerned and are willing to do all they can to help. i didn't even have to pay for today's visit. and if it wasn't for sarah, i wouldn't have been able to get into the clinic until the 15th of october! God knows how the wart would be by then!
and she even told me that she'll take a look at it again as soon as we get back from our hols.. jsut pop in after class again.. how sweet..

and Marabelle has been an angel too..other than the fact that she verbally abuses me, she's been really helpful and concerned too.. and she's gonna help me do debride the wart on my fingernail as well this sunday... sigh.. that's not gonna be pleasant.. fingers are HEAPS more sensitive than feet after all.. gosh i AM scared..

brace urself to be a lil grossed out..

alright, since everyone wants to know what happened to my foot, and i'm so sick and tired of telling the WHOLE story again and again.. i shall just publicize it her on my supposedly-for-sweet- memories- in- adelaide blog.

here's what happened from scratch

when i was at my aunt's place, back in july, i noticed my big toe hurting a lot. and i thought it was pretty normal, coz my toenail was a lil long and it was normal to hurt since i wore shoes a lot.

a week later, i came back to adelaide and started cutting my toenails. and OUCH. it hurt so badly, and i noticed a huge lump of skin stuck to my toenail (under the nail) and that's why it hurt coz i was literally snipping off living tissue. so yea ouch. and then i started observing and found some lil dots on my heel as well. it totally freaked me out so i went to get myself an appointment at the podiatry clinic. it was all booked up and the earliest date i could get was on the 14th of august (my sis's bday). and by that time, i noticed a tiny lil bump on the inner side of my big toe as well.

1ST VISIT

diagnosis :
-warts on my heel, and the lil bump on my big toe was a tiny lil wart as well.
-my toenail on the other hand, turned out to be some rare condition where the skin grows too close to the nail, it ends up sticking on the nail rather than on my flesh, thus the pain.

treatment:
they debrided my lil warts and applied silver nitrate on them.
debriding, for those who are not familiar with the term, just means removing.. so what they did was use a "blade" and cut off the parts where the wart is.

and for the toenail, they made me a toe sack, something like a spoongy cushion to reduce the pain and told me to apply betadine on it and come back in two weeks and see whether it improves.

2ND VISIT: (two weeks later) 28th august 2007

the lil wart on my big toe had grown back into its little bulge. but a lil bigger than before. and my toenail still hurt big time. plus, i started to notice the same thing in my 2nd toe and my third finger on my left hand as well.

treatment :
-debrided my warts again. ouch. they one on the big toe was starting to hurt. and applied monochlor on it.
-toenails : since it still hurt, they tried to shave off the side a lil to try to reduce the pressure on the nail so that it wouldn't hurt so much.
-i was then told to come back in a week.

3RD VISIT :4th september 2007

the wart on my toe had grown even more.
and my toenail STILL hurt. sigh.

and i got a new diagnosis: suspected that the toenail prob was also a wart! gosh!

treatment :
-debrided HEAPS of the wart off. OUCH. and used monochlor again.
-the ones on the heel were much much better.
-toenail -i got DRILLED! more scary than pain though.. and then they chopped off the lil bits of skin.. and yes monochlor again
-and i was told to come back again in a week

4TH VISIT : 11th september 2007

i started to notice my toe getting more and more painful.. and i tot it was wierd coz it should be getting better.. and not worse.. and i noticed a lil swelling on the southeast end of my big toe. i found it really hard to walk that morning as i made my way to the podiatry clinic.

diagnosis :
-not doing too good
-ingrown toenail (the swelling)
and why? coz a lot of ppl have been stepping on my foot ever since i first started hurting back in early august. and to those who are reading, if u were one of those who have regularly been stomping on my foot (u know who u are), dun feel guilty la ya.. they were accidents.. no worries..

so yea, got the wart debrided even more. its so huge now its starting to move to the bottom bit of my toe, making it really really hard to walk. and the ingrown toenail part hurts like mad too.
for my ingrown toenail, just keep applying betadine and come back again for another visit on the 15th of October..

ARGH! STUPID WART!!! the virus on my big toe is such a fighter. it never wants to give in. even with all the debriding. it just keep fighting back and flaring up, thus growing BIGGER AND BIGGER and MORE PAINFUL. its massively huge now after debriding again 2 days ago.


and now my ankle is starting to hurt too, coz i can't walk properly.. and my ankle also lousy d coz i sprained it so many times back in my old athletic sporting days.

and so now i'm treating it much much more aggressively.
burning it with the wart treatment everyday. and wiping my foot all the time (coz i wear slippers coz it hurts when i wear shoes) so wana keep it as clean as possible. i wrap my toes up too so that ppl are aware that my toe hurts and hopefully it would reduce the number of ppl trampling on my poor feet.

sigh. i hope it gets better soon. it really hurts. i've no idea how i got the warts. never had any foot problems before although i was so active in sports, in all the muddy fields.. and all the barefoot martial arts..and all the swimming and common showers at sports centres and hostels and all.. and here i am in apparently good nice clean adelaide.. and i get warts, acne, hives... and only God knows what next...


oh well, there's always a first time for everything.

and just to add some spice to this post.. here are some relatively not gross pics of my poor foot. yes, show me some empathy, not laugh at me!!

here's a pic of my toe.. can u see the lil hole at the top of the big toe? that's where it got drilled.. the 2nd toe can't really see the part where it got drilled.. and can u see the ingrown toenail? just a tiny bulge at the southeast end of the toenail. such a tiny thing but causes so much pain!

above, if u look closely, u can see the wart on the inner part of my big toe..it wasn't that huge before... ot was just a tiny dot. like a lil blackhead. below, a clearer and more disgusting pic of the wart.. yea that's the sneaky bug.. i'm gonna bring him down for sure!! i shall get it all drunk with all the alcohol gel i'm using to clean my feet!!

and above.. an even more disgusting pic.. sorry guys.. i know its really gross.. but really, this is NOTHING compared to other foot problems i've seen! man those are unbearable!!

oh the one above actually allows u to see the drilling on both the toes.. it looks really yucky but the white stuff all over is actually just the gluey stuff from all the bandaging. pretty hard to remove considering the fact that i can't scrub my toenails hard coz they hurt.and ok.. one last sickening pic of the wart... eeeuu.. i'm getting grossed out myself.. can't imagine how grossed out u are..

so yea.. that's my foot story. not exactly pleasant.. i know..
let's hope it gets better!!

I killed a patient.......again..

i keep killing patients!!

its not all about the drug, and the side effect, and the CMIs, and the lifestyle diet smoking alcohol bla bla bla...
being a pharmacist is somewhat like being an FBI agent..
the amount of investigation we need to do to solve problems and dig out hidden issues which are not noticed never fails to amaze me.

take today for an example.
i was having my counselling session with david smith (my super strict tutor)
and yea he plays the role of some guy with hypertension.
and so i do my thing and counsel him on this and that and blurt out everything i know about his medications.
and then he goes " oh by the way, i need some mylanta as well"
and so i KNEW there was some trick behind it..but i just couldn't figure our what it was!
and so i just all my typical questions.. have u used it before, what for, bla bla bla..
and i thought alright maybe there was no trick behind it.. or maybe it would be a lil issue like reduced abosrbption in the gut or so..
and at the end of it all, my groupmates (lenny and huang) mentioned that they thought i handled the mylanta pretty well..
and then my tutor explains that my patient could have walked out of my pharmacy and died!
why?
coz he was taking mylanta.. and claimed it was for heartburn.

and then it struck me.

heartburn?
how does HE know its heartburn?
who told him so?
did he just assume it was heartburn?
if it was heartburn, why did it happen when he walked a long distance???

and yes, bingo.

HE HAD ANGINA ATTACKS!!!
which he thought was heartburn.
and pharmacist shaleeni have him mylanta for his angina!!

argh!

and then david goes : its alright, its only the fourth death i had this morning anyway...the pharmacy profession is in good shape!!!

oh well, i hope i don't kill anymore patients in the near future!

in case ur wondering, NO i'm not a dentistry student.
i just happen to have close friends studying dentistry, and the next thing u know, i'm there at their "halfway there" ball marking the mid of their 5 year struggle to making their dreams of becoming a dentist a reality!!

this could have been my dress if only it wasn't sooooo expensive.. and if it hadn't been bought by someone else the very next day...sob.. coz Jolvin had got himself a really nice silver tie.. and so this silver dress wud have been so perfect to match him for the night. a lil blurry coz i used my phone to snap it and yea.. forgive the silly expression on my face.. i felt stoopid posing for a photo all on my own..

and so i end up wearing this lilac dress instead which i had all stuffed somewhere at the bottom of my luggage bag..lol.. and Jolvin was sweet enuf to go get lilac stuff to match me instead.. but his lilac, not very lilac la.. haha.. see for urself..

But u know, the thing i loved the most about going to his ball with him wasn't actually the fact that i had an excuse to be ridiculously vain and get all nicely dressed up.

Neither was it the superb, mouth watering yummy, delicious, to-die-for dinner (especially the desert!! IT WAS SOOOOOOOOO GOOD *drools*),

nor was it the whole excitement and syiok-ness of being asked to a ball by a fine young man. (nyeheheheh.. dun jelous. bwahahahah)

The greatest joy that came out of all the effort to look good and be the best date someone could have was actually the opportunity to get to know him better. And the fact that this ball fostered a great friendship between us was truly what meant the most to me.

So here's a toast to many many many years of a wonderful friendship!
(i can hear u grumbling... too bad!! = p )
