Anzac Day 25 April 2007

Anzac Day was a public holiday here in Australia. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by the Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War. The acronym ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. Okay, enough of facts. Deb and I went to watch the parade, which was just around the corner on North Terrace. It consisted mainly of lots of old people (ex-military men, nurses, etc) with all the badges proudly displayed on their chest and lots of bands. It was pretty interesting though, to see these elderly so proud of themselves.

This is our view

One of the bands

Proud ex-military men

Men in skirts with pipes (kilts and bagpipes actually)

Some flags

Another band

Old men in truck

More men in skirts with pipes

Notice anything familiar?

RAAF Malaya

Cars

More elderly men (even those who can't walk joined the parade!)

The coolest band uniform (in my opinion)

Not so elderly men MARCHING (as opposed to walking/strolling)

Sailor boys

Army trucks? or jeeps? I don't know what they're called

We left after about an hour cos things just got too repetitive =)
